One Person Tests Postive For COVID-19 In Premier League

The Premier League confirmed on Wednesday that one person has tested positive in the 5th round of coronavirus testing. 1197 tests were carried out between Monday and Tuesday.

The Premier League confirmed that one person has tested positive for the coronavirus in the latest round of testing. The person will now be isolated from their team for a week.

It is the most amount of tests the league has carried out, with 67 more tests carried out compared to the last round of testing between 28th and 29th May.

In round one, the Premier League tested 748 people, with 6 positives from 3 clubs. There were then 2 positives from two clubs in the 996 tests, with 4 testing positive from 2 clubs three days later. Round 4 saw no positives in the 1130 tests.

The league is due to resume on 17th June behind closed doors. A statement from the league read: “The Premier League can today confirm that on Monday 1 June and Tuesday 2 June, 1197 players and club staff were tested for COVID-19. Of these, one has tested positive. The individual who tested positive will now self-isolate for a period of seven days”.

“The Premier League is providing this aggregated information for the purposes of competition integrity and transparency. No specific details as to clubs or individuals will be provided by the League and results will be made public after each round of testing”, they added.

Liverpool are currently on course to win their first ever Premier League title. Manchester City are currently second. At the other end, Bournemouth, Aston Villa, and Norwich occupy the relegation zone.
